Quick answers to the questions people ask most. If yours isn't here, email us at the bottom of the page.
How do I add a playlist or login?
The first time you open bokutv, choose Add your source on Home. Later, go to Settings → Sources → Add source.
- Playlist: choose M3U playlist and enter the Playlist URL, or pick a local playlist file. A guide address and a name are optional. Select Add source.
- Provider login: choose the login option and enter the Server URL, Username and Password your provider gave you. Select Add source.
bokutv imports your channels and shows "Source added · Ready to watch". Select Start watching. The free version holds one source; Boku+ lets you combine several.
How do I add a TV guide (EPG)?
For a playlist, paste your provider's XMLTV guide address into EPG URL when you add the source. With a provider login, bokutv fetches the guide from your provider automatically.
If programme times look shifted, go to Settings → Sources → EPG offset and move that source's guide earlier or later in 30-minute steps.
Everyone gets now and next on every channel. The full guide grid, days ahead, comes with Boku+.
Why does a channel say "isn't available"?
"This channel isn't available right now" means your provider isn't sending that channel. It may be off air, offline, or no longer in your package. bokutv plays what your provider sends; it doesn't host any channels itself.
Press OK to try again, try later, or ask your provider. Other messages point to the cause too:
- Your provider refused this channel: too many devices at once, or your subscription has expired.
- Your provider is having trouble: a server problem that usually clears up.
- Can't reach this channel: a connection problem between your TV and the provider.
If you changed the playback engine for that channel yourself, set it back to Auto in the player under More → Engine. On some streams a manual switch shows this message by mistake; a fix is on the way.
Why does Android 17 ask for local network permission?
Android 17 makes apps ask before they connect to devices on your home network. The permission is called "Nearby devices".
bokutv asks only when a source you add is on your home network, such as a NAS, tvheadend, HDHomeRun or a local proxy. Sources on the internet never trigger it.
If you said no, that source shows a local-permission error. Allow Nearby devices for bokutv in your TV's app settings, then try again.
How do I restore my Boku+ purchase?
Make sure your TV uses the same Google account you subscribed with. Then go to Settings → Boku+ → Restore Purchases. The button is also on the Boku+ screen.
There's no bokutv account to sign in to: your purchase is checked with Google Play on the TV itself.
How do I cancel Boku+?
Cancel in Google Play: open the Play Store → your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → bokutv. bokutv's Manage subscription button opens the same page.
Boku+ stays on until the end of the period you've paid for. Uninstalling the app doesn't cancel it.
How do I back up and restore my setup?
Go to Settings → Backup. Export backup… saves one file wherever you choose: a USB drive, your TV's storage, or a storage app you have installed.
Add a passphrase to encrypt the file. Without one, anyone with the file can read your logins.
To restore, choose Restore backup… and pick the file. If it has a passphrase, type it and choose Unlock backup. bokutv imports your sources from your provider again, then puts back your profiles, favourites, history and resume positions.
